Interior & Equipment
The complete original interior was subject to an extensive re-trim by Redcastle Classics Ltd and completed in October 2016.
Works Included - Original comfort seats all retrimmed in fine Tan leather with contrasting aircraft style lapbelts with chrome buckles, matching door cards in leather with tramline stitched panel detail and storage pockets with integrated padded arm rests, flawless chrome door furniture, removable wooden centre console, leather sun visors and hood envelope. New original fitment square weave carpeting throughout including the boot area all with woven bound edging.
The dashboard has been fully restored, Tan leather top dash with body colour facia, locking glovebox lined in leather and inset analogue clock, fully rebuilt crystal clear VDO instruments, new switches and chrome work, Becker Europa Kurier radio, all electrics work as they were intended. The Ivory chrome ring steering wheel with Mercedes centre boss presents as new. Individually controlled heating and ventilation system...

Exterior
GRACEFUL, CONVERTIBLE GRAND TOURER...
A full photographic restoration was carried out by noted SL restoration expert of 36 years Mr Brian Gunney of Redcastle Classics, Caerphilly, South Wales and completed in the Autumn of 2016.
Painted in Mercedes-Benz Anthracite Metallic (Code DB-172). A bare shell, no expense spared restoration was instructed, the bonnet, boot lid and doors are all original plus new quality replacement panels completing the rest of the car.
The paint finish and bodywork are magnificent with a uniform deep gloss shine throughout, perfect factory panel fit, shut lines and gaps. The underside finish is equally as impressive as the top.
'Originality' was key during the restoration, the original brightwork was replated where possible or replaced with quality new items, new lights all round, Bosch headlights and all glass unmarked.
The fully restored original hard top presents in perfect order with a taught tailor made unmarked Tan leather headlining, new rubber seals, chrome trim and crystal clear rear window. New correct specification black mohair hood and fully restored framework, the hood opens and closes with ease and fits perfectly... Simply wonderful.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
Wheels - Refurbished Mercedes-Benz steel wheels with chrome hub caps finished in Anthracite Metallic and chrome wheel embellishers all present beautifully, dressed with excellent all matching Michelin ZX Whitewall 6.40 x 13 tyres.
Suspension - Original specification double wishbones and coil springs at the front and a coil-sprung single joint swing axle at the rear.
Brakes / Steering - Original, perfectly balanced, fully overhauled power-assisted drums all round and recirculation Ball-Type steering with automatic adjustment and shock absorber offers light, effortless steering.
Engine & Transmission
The fully detailed engine and engine bay house the spirited high output 1.9 litre in-line four-cylinder overhead cam and valves engine, 120 bhp at 5700 rpm. Fitted with twin Weber 40 DCOE Carburettors replacing the original dual Solex items for better all round performance, overhauled fuel and cooling system plus fully rewired.
Retaining the correct numbers matching original engine and gearbox, all fully rebuilt by Redcastle Classics during the restoration of 2016 and has covered a mere 1750 miles since.
The original manual 4-speed all synchromesh gearbox selects with ease, the clutch is light and progressive in operation, gear changes are slick and precise and starts hot or cold without issue.
On the road she cannot fail to impress, sounds glorious, maintains perfect oil pressure, offers confident handling and drivability... What a joy to drive.

Here we have a very rare UK right hand drive Mercedes-Benz 190SL and possibly one of the best restored examples in the UK by noted 190SL expert Brian Gunney of Redcastle Classics, Caerphilly, South Wales.
Just 562 cars were built to right-hand drive specification with a mere 53 of those reputedly being UK-supplied, and one of just 2,246 190 SL's produced in 1962, the final full year of production.
The history file documents the bare shell, nut and bolt extensive restoration completed 9 years ago at a cost of circa £90,000 plus £60,000 for the numbers matching original car.
We understand this 190SL originally belonged to a Doctor in Cheshire for most of its life but had fallen into disrepair over the years before being sourced by Redcastle Classics. Purchased by its current keeper in January 2016, a no expense spared 100-point restoration was instructed in the most desirable colour combination. We have to say it must be one of the most impressive restorations of any car we have ever seen.
Today this beautiful 190SL presents in exceptional order throughout which is a testament to the outstanding quality of workmanship carried out by Redcastle Classics, flawless paintwork, underside and interior, fully detailed engine, engine bay and mechanically perfect.
Taxation Class: Historic Vehicle - Zero road tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt.
For peace of mind, a fresh 12 month MOT will be completed upon sale and of course, this 190SL is HPi clear with a certificate included.
