Summary

This incredible MGB LE Roadster was sold new to Mr H. Wiggins of Lichfield, Staffordshire on 26th November 1980.  The vehicle at the time cost £6127 new and because of demand they were changing hands at £7800. This Limited Edition Roadster being 1 of only 420 produced and 1 of only 208 produced with factory wire wheels made it a very sought after vehicle.  Mr Wiggins a car collector decided to not register the car and keep it in storage preserving it for the future.  

The LE was first registered for the road on 5th April 1990 and advertised for sale in the Sunday Times and purchased by the second owner Mr J.C. Shonfeld of Stockport, Cheshire.  A full 4 page detailed examination of the vehicle was carried out by Strange, Strange & Partners Vehicle Consultants, Assessors and Valuers for Mr Shonfeld 18th April 1990.  The report states the vehicle at that time was purchased for £20,000.

The history file is incredible packed with hundreds of invoices and receipts for repairs and servicing, past owner details and log books etc. all dating back to when the vehicle was new in 1980. Every past MOT Certificate (29), 2 original keys, Heritage Certificate, original service books, owners manuals, Leyland Supercover, Leyland satisfaction cards, even the interior mirror point of sale hanging card from new are all present.

MOT until July 2022 and of course this MGB LE is HPI Clear.

Today the MGB roadster remains one of the UK’s favourite classic cars. This is an excellent opportunity to own a very rare stunning show standard MGB LE Roadster with low mileage and incredible documented history file.

More details

In 1980 the last 1000 MGBs were produced and completed in October designated the Limited Edition. The LEs were fitted with front chin spoilers and the distinctive Stag-type alloy wheels. Wire wheels were an option on the roadster version only and the car was finished in bronze metallic paint with gold LE stripes running the length of the car bodywork. The interior was upholstered in orange and brown striped cloth trim and this last of the line MGB carried a price tag of £6,108 for the Roadster and £6,576 for the GT. A total of 420 Roadsters and 580 GTs were made before the closure of Abingdon and the last of each model now resides with the Heritage Trust alongside their famous collection of historic vehicles at the Heritage Centre, Gaydon.
